Dominic Cabusi and Bronte Maree O'Neill (Maari Music) are award nominated Composers working in Composition, Songwriting, Production and Publishing with an emphasis on Sync, Score and Soundtrack Music for Film, Television and Media. This duo compose with a contemporary production style that contrasts depth and grit with vulnerability and undeniable heart. Pairing dark electronic devices with orchestral textures and soaring melodies, they give bittersweet and melancholy soundscapes revealing juxtaposing influences in Pop, Rnb, Punk, 20th Century classical and a homage to the romance of Music Theatre. This duo specialise in composing both the Soundtrack and Score of their projects; giving them the opportunity to create a Soundscape and lyrical palette tailored specifically to the plot, environment and characters of a film.
In 2020 they worked on their first Feature Film The Legend of The Five; a family fantasy which hit 55 Cinemas Australia wide; including Events Cinemas, Village Cinemas, ShowBiz Cinemas and various Independents before having it's TV Premiere on ABC ME in 2021. The film features the duo's 2 Pop Title Tracks and a Complete Score featuring orchestral, acoustic and electronic production. It is currently available to stream on Prime Video & TVOD across Australia, the US and the UK, and has hit cinemas across Aus/NZ, the US, Europe and selected countries in Asia.
The duo have just released their Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Australian coming of age dance film The Red Shoes: Next Step which has just finished its Australian Cinema run (seeing screenings at over 130 cinemas such as Events, HOYTS, Village and Majestic) and is now making its way around the world (US, UK, Germany, France). This features an electro-acoustic style score and their biggest Soundtrack commission yet of 11 original songs featuring Australian vocalists of various genres. They are currently nominated for an APRA AMCOS Screen Music Award in the category of ‘Best Original Song Composed For The Screen’ for their Title Track ‘Glow.’ They have also finished work on a two song Soundtrack feature for upcoming Teen Fantasy Feature Film The Ninth Order, a Score and Title Track for upcoming Short Films; El Sol, (Winner of Best GC Short at Gold Coast Film Festival) and Don’t Tell Me You Love Me, a score for upcoming Short Film Inner Dialogue, as well as the Score, Theme and Credit tracks for upcoming Sci Fi series Tofana.They have also begun freelance work under ONYX Music involving some cue work on an upcoming series and Dominic’s work as an additional composer on upcoming game Samurai Unicorn. They are excited to announce their next feature film commissions in the coming months.
Dom and Bronte have also cut their teeth in the world of Sync Music / Publishing, releasing a collaboration with Castle Music under KPM Music (Sony Music Publishing) in 2021. The album Earth Songs; was released in association with the AWC (Australian Wildlife Conservancy) and features four of the duo's original tracks on the compilation of songs inspired by conservation, nature and our connection to this planet. All four tracks have made sync placements internationally; including features on BBC World News and UKTV’s Rochelle Humes: Interior Designer In The Making. Their very first original single as a duo ‘Shades of Jealousy’ was also featured on House Rules, Channel 7. The duo have also been commissioned to compose and produce several Podcast Introductions (Child of 98, The Melting Pot, Let's be Naked and Sort Ya Life Out), a Radio show introduction for Live from Sydney Road (SYN FM), a Product Promotion for the BOSS GT1B Bass Pedal and a Wed Series/ Podcast theme for Bev's with Sez (Ampel Media).
Outside of commission work, Dominic Cabusi and Bronte Maree O'Neill write original music under three alias’s showcasing various sonic soundscapes; they are called herana, Neon Phantoms and Puffpuffjigglypuf
Outside of Composition work, Dom and Bronte are both professional performers in their own right. Since the age of 15 Dom has seen multiple National Tours and TV performances (Sunrise, The Morning Show) with various bands under Harbour Agency, Sony Music and Warner Music as a Songwriter, Vocalist and an Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar and Keyboard player. He has performed to crowds of over 85,000 people for events like the NRL Grand Final and Australia Day at Parliament House. He is now touring with the Australian Premiere of Tina The Musical Australia as Bass Chair and is a valued House band member of the Burnt Butter Jam, Sydney. He also works in Short Courses at the Australian Institute of Music to give workshops in Songwriting, Composition and Contemporary Performance.
Bronte has been a passionate vocalist since the age of 13, growing up performing in Music Theatre and independently releasing her own acoustic original Pop songs to over 50K Youtube/MySpace fans. As a professional vocalist she has been featured at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Luna Park Sydney, The Royal Easter Show and with the Navy Big Band and Blue Mountains Symphony Orchestra as well as finding session backing vocalist work on the X Factor Australia and for the AACTV Awards (Channel 7). She is a Permanent Academic Lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music, Sydney where she runs Sydney’s Short Courses and gives Bachelor level classes in Vocal Technique, Sight Singing, Aural Theory and Choir.
Maari Music operate from their own Production Suite in Burwood, Sydney Australia and their home studio. When they are not working on a commission they are composing and releasing a diverse range of Original Songs and ReScores. Dom & Bronte are always creating, honing their craft and looking for stories to tell.
