Bronte Maree O'Neill

Head lyricist, composer, songwriter

Dominic Cabusi and Bronte Maree O'Neill are Maari Music. They are award nominated Contemporary Composers working in Composition and Songwriting with an emphasis on Score and Soundtrack Music for Film, Television and Media. Pairing dark, electronic devices with orchestral textures and soaring melodies give bittersweet and melancholy soundscapes revealing juxtaposing influences in Pop, Punk, Folk, Soul and an homage to the romance of Music Theatre. They share a great passion for capturing each project’s story and world through unique electronic / orchestral textures and live contemporary instrumentation. Maari Music specialise in writing both Score and Original Soundtrack for a project, having written over 30 songs to script/visual, they especially enjoy crafting Title tracks that give a textural and/or motivic identity they are then able to weave into their instrumental score.

In 2020 they worked on their first Feature Film The Legend of The Five; a family fantasy which hit 55 Cinemas Australia wide; including Events Cinemas, Village Cinemas, ShowBiz Cinemas and various Independents before having it's TV Premiere on ABC ME in 2021. The film features the duo's 2 Pop Title Tracks and a Complete Score featuring orchestral, acoustic and electronic production. It is currently available to stream on Prime Video & TVOD across Australia, the US and the UK, and has hit cinemas across Aus/NZ, the US, Europe and selected countries in Asia. In 2023 the duo released their Original Motion Picture Soundtrack for Australian coming of age dance film The Red Shoes: Next Step which saw a successful Australian Cinema run (including screenings at over 130 cinemas such as Events, HOYTS, Village and Majestic) and is now making its way around the world (US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Taiwan). It features an electro-acoustic style score and their biggest Soundtrack commission yet of 11 original songs featuring Australian vocalists of various genres, including their title track ‘Glow’ which earned them an APRA AMCOS Screen Music Award in the category of ‘Best Original Song Composed For The Screen.’

They have composed Score and Soundtrack work for Short Films; El Sol (Winner of Best GC Short at Gold Coast film festival), Don’t Tell Me You Love Me, Inner Dialogue and most recently Whalefall; three of which feature Title tracks written to script. They have also written both the Opening Titles and Credit track for upcoming Series; Tofana, two Soundtrack features for upcoming feature film Ninth Order and a Soundtrack feature collaboration with Darren Lim of ONYX Music for NightBloomers the series featured aired on SBS. They recently saw the release of their first Documentary score for ‘For Her With Her’ on behalf of the Women’s Legal Service Queensland. Dominic Cabusi is also working as an additional composer on upcoming game Samurai Unicorn. In 2025, Maari see their next two Feature Film Score / Soundtracks released. March saw the premiere of Carmen & Bolude, a raw and heartfelt Australian comedy which featured 2 tracks written to script and a full film score. In May, they saw the release of First Moon; a thriller/horror that allowed the duo to indulge in their darkest soundscapes yet. They are currently working on their fifth Feature Film Score which they are excited to discuss soon… they can promise it will show an intimacy and vulnerability they have found great pleasure in creating.

Dom and Bronte have also cut their teeth in the world of Sync Music / Publishing, releasing a collaboration with Castle Music under KPM Music (Sony Music Publishing) in 2021. The album Earth Songs; was released in association with the AWC (Australian Wildlife Conservancy) and features four of the duo's original tracks on the compilation of songs inspired by conservation, nature and our connection to this planet. All four tracks have made sync placements internationally; including features on BBC World News, NBC/Telemundo’s ‘Juego De Mentiras,’ UKTV’s Rochelle Humes: Interior Designer In The Making and recently Apple TV’s ‘NFL 360.’ Their very first single was also featured on House Rules, Channel 7. They are called herana, Neon Phantoms and Puffpuffjigglypuff. **Their first alias is herana; a cinematic pop project grounded in magic, melancholy and sweeping sentimentality. Their second alias Neon Phantoms fuses Punk and EDM; delivering edgier sounds of angst, sass and nostalgia. Puffpuffjigglypuff is their Indie Pop and Punk project reserved for nostalgia dripped happy songs about sad things. As well as featuring in Maari Music commissioned Soundtracks, these original tracks have seen the duo perform on line ups with North East Party House, Wafia & E^st, receive international radio play and feature Music Videos at Sydney Fringe Festival's Clipped TV event, Parramatta Lanes Festival and on MTV's program MTV Upload.
